Waste management concept
A waste management concept is a helpful control and planning instrument for operational waste management. Modern waste management makes every effort to use valuable raw materials and energy efficiently. Less waste protects the environment, protects people and saves resources.
Companies with more than 20 employees must draw up a waste management concept every seven years at the latest in order to meet their legal obligations. In addition, it is required as part of operating facility permits.
The waste management concept provides a detailed picture of waste in the company. For example, it contains information on the type, quantity, origin and whereabouts of all waste in the organization. It also includes a summary of all measures taken and planned to achieve waste management goals related to prevention, recovery and disposal.
The aim of a waste management concept is to create awareness for sustainable waste management. It identifies potential for improvement in operational resource and waste management, as well as opportunities for process improvement through changes in (manufacturing) processes, logistics and procedures.
This offers opportunities for resource and cost savings (e.g. in disposal and material procurement) and often also improves competitiveness.
Steps in the preparation of the waste management concept:
- Break down operational processes into waste-relevant individual steps.
- waste avoidance potentials are determined
- Individual operational areas are analyzed
- internal & external recycling possibilities are examined
We recommend akaryon's ESG-Cockpit for the creation of the waste management concept.
