Severity of a negative impact

The severity of a negative impact is determined by its
(i) scale: how grave the impact is,
(ii) scope: how widespread the impact is, and
(iii) its irremediable character: whether and to what extent the negative impacts could be remediated, i.e., restoring the environmental or affected people to their prior state.
